My Pregnancy Story

I’ve been working in the health and fitness industry for 14 years. I've been working directly with women with great success. I was able to help them get their periods back after years of nothing. They were falling pregnant, and having successful and beautiful pain free pregnancies. Through postpartum they were recovering extremely quickly to 'bounce back' to their old selves. Actually, they improved beyond that to be even healthier than what they were pre-pregnancy.

With all my studies, knowledge and time spent learning from other women I thought I had all this pregnancy stuff in the bag. I thought it would be easy for me.

I had my body tuned up and prepared for 2 years. I’d been on a full preconception plan for this whole time. Yes, I did fall pregnant, and pretty easily all three times.

But I still had two miscarriages. Even though I knew how common miscarriage was, even though I'd been there personally throughout my clients struggles with miscarriage, never did I actually think it would happen to me. I felt like a failure. I felt like my body betrayed me.

The doctors kept telling me how common miscarriage was and I needed to have three miscarriages in order for them to start investigating possible causes (not exactly what I wanted to hear). Once again this reaffirmed my long term beliefs that conventional doctors don't have all the answers.

Deep down I knew, with all my education and time spent learning personally from so many incredible women that there was more to it. I knew I needed to do more and I wasn’t willing to accept the chance of potentially having a third miscarriage before investigations were done.

But then finally I reached out for support. I found a fantastic GP (through a nutritionist I was working with) who agreed with me, investigations needed to be made. She recognized everything that I was already doing and knew there had to be a missing link.

In the end this became clear that this was my answer. What I resisted for so long was actually the help I needed. I couldn’t possibly know everything and get through this without the help of others. I surrendered to the conventional medical system and combined “conventional western medicine” along with all my own knowledge. And it worked.

It was discovered that I had a rare blood clot gene which was potentially causing early miscarriage. I was prescribed clexane as a blood thinner and had to get my husband Luke to inject me every day for 18 weeks during my third pregnancy. As you can imagine this proved to be a little challenging whilst living and travelling in a van! Additionally I used progesterone pessaries (which I took twice daily) to help support and maintain my pregnancy.

After all this time and work we eventually had a beautiful baby boy on April 30th 2021. We named him Beau and we couldn't be happier!

Upon looking back at this period I am so grateful for all the work I had put in and all the knowledge that I already had to go through it. I'm so grateful for my routine, my yoga practice, breath work, meditation, all my knowledge about the woman’s body and love of healthy food. All of this along with a strong support system around me. I’m not sure I would have had the strength to get through it all so easily otherwise.

Not for one second do I think that my story is a recipe for all. We are all so incredibly different and what worked for me may not for you. But one thing that remains true with my story and so many others is that it’s okay to be your own health advocate, to demand more, trust your gut, know your body, look after your health and fitness and most importantly reach out for help and support.

So for all of you out there that are struggling in any way or at any stage of this wild ride of being a woman, then please reach out. I see you. I feel you. I understand the worry and the fear and this is why it’s so damn important that I created a safe accessible program for all women. Pregnancy is not an illness and we should stop treating it like that!
